MYTO - Distance based toll

What are the penalties for MYTO violations?

Violations regarding the MYTO system can result in heavy fines. Unlike the e-vignette, where a violation can be reversed by paying until midnight on the same day, there is a zero tolerance for the MYTO system, where each driven kilometer is subject to a fee.

Severity: On the spot fine: Administrative Fine:
Minor (e.g., incorrect axle setting) €100 – €300 Up to €500
Major (e.g., no OBU or no credit) €500 – €700 Up to €1,500
Repeat Offenses Higher Tiers Up to €3,000 + License Susp.

Note: In the case of intentionally manipulating the OBU (e.g. hiding, jamming, etc.) the police might seize the vehicle until the maximum fine of €3,000 is paid.

Common violations include:

  • Driving without an OBU
  • Insufficient credit on OBU if pre-paid
  • Incorrect axle setting (e.g. forgot to update OBU)
